Why online "average cost" numbers are all over the place
If you've searched "how much does a water softener cost," you've probably seen national averages and calculators with wide ranges. Those are estimates meant to cover every kind of home, including homes that need a new softener loop run, new drain lines or a new outlet. We only install at an existing softener-ready connection, so our prices can stay posted. Not sure if your home is softener-ready? Here's how to tell.
What's included
- Sweet & Simple Softener ($1,499): new single-tank mixed bed softener, connection and labor, drain.
- Sweet & Simple Plus ($1,799): everything above plus a whole home sediment filter.
- Sweet Spot Dual Tank ($2,199): a dedicated hardness tank, a dedicated chlorine tank and a sediment filter.
- Sweet Well Water System ($4,799): a complete well water setup built for sulfur smell and iron.
- Sweet Start Install ($399): connection, valves and labor for a unit you supply.
Every visit starts with a free hardness test and ends with a second test, so you can see the softened water for yourself.
What can change the price
- Water source. City water and well water need different equipment. Well water with sulfur or iron usually points to the Sweet Well Water System rather than a basic softener.
- Distance to the existing connection. We install at existing softener-ready connections. If the spot you want is far from it, we'll tell you what that means first.
- Access. A tight side yard, a crowded garage or a hard-to-reach spot can add time.
- Electrical. The outlet isn't included. If there isn't one nearby, our trusted licensed electrician can quote one separately.
Do you even need a softener?
Maybe not. JEA's hardness list runs from about 7 to 22 grains per gallon depending on ZIP, and JEA notes hard water isn't a health risk. If your water tests on the low end and the spots don't bother you, we'll say so. Look up your ZIP in our Jacksonville water hardness by ZIP guide, or compare options in softener vs whole home filter vs reverse osmosis.
How to compare quotes
- Ask for the price in writing before the visit, and what it includes (the drain and removal of the old unit).
- Ask whether they'll test your water before and after and show you the numbers.
- Ask what's not included (electrical, moving connections, outdoor drainage).
- Be wary of quotes that only appear after a long in-home demo.

Common questions
How much does a water softener cost in Jacksonville?
With us, a new single-tank softener fully installed is $1,499. Our most popular Sweet Spot Dual Tank (softener + chlorine filter) is $2,199. Install-only for a unit you already own is $399, and the Sweet Well Water System for sulfur and iron is $4,799. Electrical outlet not included: you provide a working outlet, or our trusted licensed electrician can install one (quoted separately). Prices may vary by water source and install location; your final price is confirmed after the free water test, before any work starts.
Is the price really the price?
Yes. These are posted prices. Your final price is confirmed after the free water test, before any work starts. The things that can change it are your water source (city vs well), the distance to the existing connection, and access. If something changes the price, you hear it before we start.
Does replacing an old softener cost less than a new install?
Replacement uses the same posted packages, and removing the old unit is included. Homes that already have a softener spot and connection are usually the simplest jobs.
Do I need the Sweet Curb Pad?
Only if your softener sits outside. It's a +$299 add-on: a wood-trimmed rock or mulch pad where the brine already discharges, so the spot doesn't turn into a soggy, salty patch.
What is not included in the price?
Electrical outlet installation is not included. The homeowner needs to provide a working outlet near the install location, or we can have our trusted licensed electrician install one (quoted separately).
